I went to the Barcelona Olympics in 1992; in some ways, it was a disaster, I had transport problems and many of my photographs did not prove, but in different methods it was magical, and it gave me a real starvation for more travel. I did not get to travel again till 2001. Since then, I’ve travelled alone. I by no means married nor had children, so I’ve been a kind of lone adventurer.

Visiting Equatorial Guinea, I checked in to the only hotel within the capital at that time (1980s). The receptionist requested if I would really like an air conditioned room or a non-air conditioned room. Naturally, being on the equator (Equatorial Guinea – geddit?), I opted for the room with AC. The man then mentioned that maybe I should check the room earlier than making a decision.

I usually choose large silk scarves as I can do many things with it. As you can see in this picture, our granddaughter uses a large silk scarf to decorate her outfit. Wide scarves can be utilized as skirt or sarong so they are extra helpful. I can even use this to wrap round my neck when it is actually chilly. But when I get to cold climate locations, I even have very mild but giant scarves of pure wool and silk that are extremely warm. Again, these are scarves I can put inside my purse even if it is large enough to cover most of myself.
